One of the best days for me was when Ireland won and I went into the Turf Accountants in St Ives to pick up my winnings! Recently I met up with a friend in the Oliver Cromwell – it’s a lovely old pub, beautifully maintained, lovely building and garden in the summer. There are always 5-6 real ales, it’s well stocked and well managed, the people are pleasant. We had a meal and a pint and went to the riverside – we got on a friends boat and had a bbq. All these candle lit boats came down (all different sizes) down through the bridge, past the quay. The town was alive, 5 deep along the quayside, packed full of people having a good time. It was all free, there was live music. The town is at its best when it does fetes, carnivals and sailing. It would be nice if the drinking fountains could be reinstated.
School Council I don’t live in St Ives but a couple of months ago had my first ever trip to the market. We had some relatives staying so brought them over and went to the museum. It was really interesting I found things out about my own area. We sat by the river, it was a sunny day. I have great fun in St Ives, I don’t live here but would come in more if public transport was cheaper. Transport into Cambridge is really expensive. Parents would normally have to give me a lift. Snow days are really good when the schools are closed. Another great day we had was when we went night fishing (the biggest Perch in Britain has twice been fished from the Great Ouse). We like swimming in the river, it’s slimy underfoot but the river is really good. A great day would be to come in the evening for something to eat. There are too many charity shops and we need somewhere to buy cds, dvds. We need a Blockbuster and more young shops. An ideal day would be to come into town on a weekend, either walk or cycle in (we need more covered places to safely store bikes), ideally to the fair, have a drink at a café, go to a club like The Junction in Cambridge. We use the Slepe Hall park a lot but the basket swing keeps breaking. I love the music festival but there needs to be more rides at the fair. We like the skate ramp at Hill Rise. I live in Hemingford and we have thing there called Revel – its a church with pool tables, PS2 and Wii. You can get tea and toast there. It’s a bit like Broad Leas. We really like Broad Leas and the graffiti artwork there, it would be good to see more arty graffiti in some of the boring places around the town. It would be good to have a WaterPark like the swimming pool at Parkside.
